Eliezer Berkovits (1908-1992) was one of the twentieth century's most outstanding Jewish thinkers. In nineteen books, dozens of essays, and countless lectures and Articles, Berkovits outlined a systematic Jewish approach to the modern world that synthesized an abiding respect for Jewish tradition with a bold vision of such subjects as the nature of Jewish law and morality; the impact of the Holocaust on Jewish faith; and the place of Zionism in Jewish and world history. Taken together, Berkovits' approach to texts, tradition, and Jewish philosophy can serve as a guide for the revival of a Jewish thought capable of addressing the problems facing Jews in the modern world.
