The Shalem Center's Department of Archaeology conducted excavations and other field research in Jerusalem and other areas of Israel, as well as original research synthesizing and reinterpreting findings of digs carried out elsewhere. Archaeology department excavations focused on the area described in biblical sources as the palace of the kings of Israel.
