Registration Opens for Shalem Summer Internship Program
The Shalem Center is accepting applications for its Summer Internship Program, which will be held in Jerusalem during June 26–August 16, 2012. A select group of outstanding undergraduates and recent graduates will have the opportunity to participate in ongoing projects at Israel's foremost research institute, as well as work closely with the institute’s leading scholars. Admitted students will receive a $3,000 honorarium upon successful completion of the program. Application deadline: February 1, 2012; students will be notified of admissions decisions by March 15.

The Shalem Center Summer Internship Program is widely recognized as a one-of-a kind educational experience and training opportunity. Now in its eighth year, the program recruits outstanding international students interested in working closely with Shalem scholars and contributing to ongoing Shalem projects. Interns assist in the research, editing, and writing of materials on a wide range of topics, including Jewish and Zionist thought, Middle East history and politics, and Jewish law, and become an integral part of the Shalem academic community.

Scholar Spotlight: Meet Dr. Tzahi Weiss

Born and raised in Jerusalem, Shalem post-doctoral fellow Tzahi Weiss is a regular contributor to his native city’s intellectual and cultural life, whether through talks on modern Hebrew authors at cultural venues such as Beit Avi Chai and Beit Agnon, or as a lecturer on “Reading the Zohar” at Hebrew University. His first book, The Death of the Shekhinah in S.Y. Agnon’s Oeuvre, was published in 2009; his second, on the origins and meaning of the Hebrew letters in Jewish sources from late antiquity, is forthcoming; and his third, which is nearing completion, focuses on the Book of Creation (Sefer Yetzirah). Weiss will be among the inaugural faculty of Shalem College’s Interdisciplinary Program in Philosophy and Jewish Thought, in which he will serve as a professor of Jewish mysticism and Hebrew literature.
